Fueling Up for a Good Night's Sleep

Fueling Up for a Good Night's Sleep

A good night's sleep is essential to our overall well-being, both mental and physical. Unfortunately, many of us struggle to get enough quality rest at night. Fortunately, there are some simple things we can do—like eating the right foods—to help us get a better night's sleep. Let’s explore some of the best foods you should eat before bed if you're looking for a good night's rest.

Cherries are a great snack before bedtime because they contain melatonin which helps regulate your body’s internal clock. Melatonin helps promote feelings of sleepiness so that you can drift off into dreamland more quickly. Additionally, cherries are rich in tryptophan which is an amino acid that helps your brain produce serotonin and ultimately makes it easier to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

Another food that has been proven to help people achieve better sleep is almonds. Almonds contain magnesium, which relaxes muscles and relieves tension by calming down your nervous system so that you can relax more easily before bedtime. Additionally, almonds are high in fiber which will help keep you full until morning time rolls around again.

If you're looking for something sweet but don't want all the added sugar from candy or other desserts, then bananas may be just what you need! Bananas are packed with potassium, magnesium and vitamin B6 which all contribute to helping your body relax before bedtime. Also, bananas contain tryptophan just like cherries do so they will also help produce serotonin in the brain which will help lull you off into peaceful slumber land!

Getting a good night's rest is essential for our physical and mental health but sometimes it can be difficult to get enough quality rest at night due to insomnia or other issues such as stress or anxiety. Fortunately, there are some simple things we can do—like eating certain foods—to give ourselves a better chance of getting a good night’s sleep. So next time you're feeling restless at night, try snacking on cherries, almonds or bananas before bedtime; these three powerhouses have been proven to help people achieve better sleep without all the added sugar from candy or other desserts! With these tips in mind, hopefully now you'll have no problem getting the zzz's that your body needs! Sweet dreams! :)
